And why buying our CBD products made from Hemp matters!

It’s Earth Day 2021. And with the majority of Americans believing that climate change is not only real, but poses a threat to our way of life, it’s more important than ever to know that the products we use and consume every day are “Earth Friendly”. So on this Earth Day 2021, we wanted to again remind you just how wonderful Industrial Hemp, the plant we use for our products, is for the environment.

Unlike its cousin, true marijuana used for recreational and medicinal purposes, Industrial Hemp is grown outdoors. Marijuana on the other hand, tends to grown indoors for security and crop isolation. The problem with this is it creates a massive carbon footprint as heating/air conditioning and extreme amounts of lighting and electricity are needed to grow pot indoors. Not so with our hemp.

For the past 50 Earth Days, we’ve been talking about reforestation as the means to saving our planet. As we all know, reforestation reduces the harmful accumulation of CO2 and helps mitigate climate change. BUT NOW, there’s a cheaper, faster and more efficient alternative available that can complement reforestation efforts …widespread cultivation of Industrial Hemp. For nearly a century, hemp was outlawed in America, but was legalized on a national scale with the passage of the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018. This non-intoxicating form of cannabis can not only be grown for CBD, but also for fiber, cloth, oil, food and other industrial purposes. Hemp grows to 13 feet in 100 days, making it one of the fastest CO2-to-biomass conversion processes available. Industrial hemp has been proven to absorb more CO2 per hectare than any forest or commercial crop, making it the ideal carbon sink. It can also be grown on a wide scale on nutrient poor soils with very small amounts of water and no fertilizers, making its potential virtually ubiquitous. And because it requires no fertilizers or pesticides, it’s far better from an environmental perspective than virtually any other commercial crop.

But the benefits don’t stop there. Hemp has the ability to replace traditional petroleum-based plastics with an environmentally-friendly alternative that actually biodegrades, potentially saving millions of seabirds, ocean creatures and perhaps the oceans themselves. It can replace the CO2-heavy use of concrete in building materials and make clothing more comfortable and durable than the finest cottons. In addition, Industrial Hemp can be used to produce over 25,000 other products. That means that absolutely nothing goes to waste with this plant. Another miraculous environmental benefit of hemp is , once harvested, the seed can be used to produce a wide range of healthy food products.

So on Earth Day 2021, you can rest assured that buying our products made from hemp is helping, not hurting, the environment. At Imbue, we’re proud that in some small way we’re contributing to a better Earth through the use of hemp, and we’re also promoting in any way we can, the more GLOBAL, widespread use of hemp. And we’d be most appreciative if all of you, our wonderful customers, would do the same!

With all our best,

Tom
