Let’s celebrate HEMP! (and CBD!)

Happy Earth Day! I know it seems it a bit overshadowed by the current pandemic, but frankly, the need to focus on the environment is even more important when faced with a biological disaster like covid-19.

At Imbue, we’ve always been about Earth First. Our “Earth First” approach means we never use pesticides or harmful chemicals in growing or processing our products. We use organic, non-GMO, vegan ingredients and package products in fully recyclable materials. And we only use hemp grown in fields suitable for products intended for human consumption.

From the very first, we’ve grown and processed all our products in one of the most environmentally forward-thinking States…Colorado. With an exceptional growing climate combined with an enlightened legislative atmosphere, we believe Colorado is a perfect home for Imbue botanicals. But there’s more to the story…Colorado has a rich agricultural history. With abundant sunshine and access to irrigation, Colorado produces a host of exceptional crops. And it also has some of the most progressive legislation regarding not only marijuana, but industrial hemp as well.

In Colorado, we are able to grow our hemp in fields that grow crops for human consumption, not isolated lots or non-agricultural growing conditions one finds elsewhere. And we can grow at high altitude, which increases the amount of sunlight available to our plants, and can increase the overall level of cannabinoids.

But let’s face it. This is JUST the tip of the iceberg! Sure, growing a product like ours for the wide variety of health benefits from hemp may be far better than so many other “synthetic” products and their effects on the environment, but it’s just the beginning of what HEMP can do!

For the past 49 Earth Days, we’ve been talking about reforestation as the means to saving our planet. As we all know, reforestation reduces the harmful accumulation of CO2 and helps mitigate climate change. BUT NOW, there’s a cheaper, faster and more efficient alternative available that can complement reforestation efforts …widespread cultivation of Industrial Hemp. For nearly a century, hemp was outlawed in America, but was legalized on a national scale with the passage of the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018. This non-intoxicating form of cannabis can not only be grown for CBD, but also for fiber, cloth, oil, food and other industrial purposes. Hemp grows to 13 feet in 100 days, making it one of the fastest CO2-to-biomass conversion processes available. Industrial hemp has been proven to absorb more CO2 per hectare than any forest or commercial crop, making it the ideal carbon sink. It can also be grown on a wide scale on nutrient poor soils with very small amounts of water and no fertilizers, making its potential virtually ubiquitous.

But the benefits don’t stop there. Hemp has the ability to replace traditional petroleum-based plastics with an environmentally-friendly alternative that actually biodegrades, potentially saving millions of seabirds, ocean creatures and perhaps the oceans themselves. It can replace the CO2-heavy use of concrete in building materials and make clothing more comfortable and durable than the finest cottons.

So on Earth Day 2020, we’re proud that in some small way Imbue is contributing to a better Earth through its use of hemp, but we’re also promoting, in any way we can, the more GLOBAL, widespread use of hemp. And we’d be most appreciative if all of you, our wonderful customers, would do the same!

With all our best,

Tom
