New Research Confirms CBD, NOT THC, Matters for Sleep

University of South Florida nursing professor Andrea Efre recently published an Op-ed inΒ Marijuana Moment discussing new research examining which cannabinoids may be most effective for improving sleep. After reviewing nearly 4,600 studies and conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis of the available clinical evidence, the researchers found that cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), and combinations of the two were associated with the most consistent improvements in sleep quality, total sleep time, and reductions in daytime sleepiness. Contrary to common assumptions, THC was not the primary cannabinoid linked to improved sleep outcomes and was associated with a higher incidence of adverse effects.

The authors note that many consumers turn to cannabis products for sleep, often relying on marketing claims or anecdotal reports rather than clinical evidence. Their analysis found that CBD doses ranging from 50–300 mg and CBN doses ranging from 20–100 mg produced the most consistent benefits in the studies reviewed. The findings challenge the long-standing belief that THC is the primary sleep-promoting cannabinoid and suggest that sleep-focused cannabis formulations may be more effective when they emphasize CBD and CBN rather than high levels of THC.

The researchers conclude that while more large-scale clinical trials are needed, current evidence supports a more nuanced understanding of cannabis and sleep. They encourage healthcare professionals, manufacturers, and consumers to focus on evidence-based cannabinoid formulations and to recognize that different cannabinoids may play distinct roles in supporting healthy sleep and relaxation.

HOW IMBUE LINES UP…

Not surprisingly, these findings align well with Imbue Botanicals' wellness-focused product lineup. For years now, our focus has been to offer higher potency products to help support sleep. And the reviews from our customers support our approach.

Our 50 mg Full Spectrum CBD Capsules provide a clinically relevant serving size of CBD alongside naturally occurring minor cannabinoids and terpenes found in hemp. This combination can help support relaxation and promote a sense of calm before bedtime, while the full spectrum profile contributes to the entourage effect, where multiple hemp compounds work together to support overall wellness and sleep quality.

Our most popular product for sleep support is our 50 mg Full Spectrum CBD Gummies which offer a convenient, tasty, and enjoyable way to incorporate a higher-strength serving of CBD into an evening routine. With a CBD amount that falls within the range identified in sleep-focused research, these gummies may help support relaxation, ease occasional stress, and encourage a calmer transition into bedtime. Their easy-to-use format makes them an appealing option for individuals looking for a consistent nightly wellness supplement. And because they are chewed rather than just swallowed, CBD is absorbed by the mucosal membrane allowing it to begin working faster. And if 1 gummy doesn’t quite do the trick, try 2!

For consumers seeking a THC-free option, Imbue Botanicals' 60 mg Broad Spectrum CBD Capsules deliver a higher-potency serving of CBD while retaining additional beneficial hemp compounds. Our Broad Spectrum formulations are uniquely designed to provide higher availability of naturally occurring cannabinoids and terpenes without detectable THC, making them an attractive choice for individuals looking to support relaxation, nighttime recovery, and healthy sleep cycles.

But whatever product you choose, it’s nice to know that it’s supported by ongoing research. Here’s to restful night’s sleep!
